This page describes the Specialties UPG seeks Apprentices to fill.

The Specialist component of the Apprentice's week will take up around 10 hours. Participation in Group Projects (described at the Apprentices page) requires around 20 hours (educators may have educational commitments). The ratio will vary as required by Program Management.

Urban Forester 8 Installation of native trees and habitats, removal of invasives, followup care. Provides key expertise and training during projects and planting activities.  Become expert in UPG habitat restoration methods. Use the skills to physically change the world. Participate in community science.  Earth sciences degree or  landscape maintenance, especially helpful.
Nursery Manager 2 Grow plants (native trees, shrubs, groundcover, larval hosts, wildflowers, etc) needed for creating habitats, including seed planting, transplanting, weeding, soil amending, etc.  Ensure a steady flow of plants and trees UPG needs for projects and operations which physically changes the world.  Earth sciences, horticulture, nursery especially helpful.
Permaculturist / Farmer 2 Grow organic food in the UPG gardens.  Plan and execute planting plans. Ensure proper watering, harvesting and seed production.   Ensure a steady flow of food to sustain the UPG workers during projects and operations which physically changes the world. Participate in community science.  Permaculture and/or gardening experience required.  
Landscape Architect 1 Create professional landscape designs for UPG projects. Train Apprentices to use them during installation.  Assist UPG Staff in developing professional-grade planning documents for UPG projects that change the world.  College LSA degree required, experience preferred.
Educator: English/Kreyol 1 Provide community education, outreach and recruiting in English and Kreyol. May include UPG and school locations.  Supervise surveys and metrics collection.  Provide real-world climate education in the Haitian-American community. Assist in the development of signage and educational materials.  College degree in earth sciences or education preferred. Must be fluent in English and Kreyol (spoken and written). 
Educator: English/Spanish 1 Provide community education, outreach and recruiting in English and Spanish. May include UPG and school locations.  Supervise surveys and metrics collection.  Provide real-world climate education in the Latin-American community. Assist in the development of signage and educational materials.  College degree in earth sciences or education preferred. Must be fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written). 
Educator: PreK 1 Provide Environmental Education to PreK students at 2 schools, and child ed during weekend projects. Routine maintenance of Living Classroom plantings. Learn to utilize UPG's living classrooms approach. Utilize existing curricula. Develop child-appropriate activities during weekend projects.  College degree in early childhood education preferred.
Documentary & Photography 2 Create short documentaries in support of CA Project and Education objectives, including how-to community education.   Document progress of projects at all stages. Support Social Media & Graphics with timely content. College degree in film or related required. Camera and editing skills required. 
Social Media & Program Admin 1 Develop and implement Social Media campaigns in support of CA projects and educational objectives. Serve as a conduit for Documentary and Educational materials.  Manage a flow of content to engage the public in fighting Climate Crisis and supporting UPG's work to do so. Recruit Volunteers. Assist in program admin as needed.  College degree or related life experience required. Must have strong SM background. 
Graphics/Sign Designer 1 Design professional education signage for UPG projects, nature trails, etc.  Develop graphics in support of UPG projects and objectives. Collaborate with educators and SM. College degree or related life experience required. Must have strong graphics background.
